My 30th birthday was bitter sweet! I blew out the candles to my 20s and popped champagne to the 30s.... HOORAY!!! I made it to my 30s in the best shape of my life, with the love of my life and with family and friends that keep me grounded everyday. I have to admit I have been a little anxious about the BIG day and have been using every chance to reference my 20s before the week was over, just to say it for the last time that I was in my 20s. I am so over it now, I had great friends around me and planned the birthday party of my dreams( because that is what type A, planners do)!
Here is how the night went down!
Moroccan Themed Tablescape
After weeks of
pinning on Pintrest for birthday ideas, I settled on planning a birthday that would
be casual, low key, but a great experience for my friends. I love entertaining and
my birthday was to be an epic dinner party!
Best DIY: I live in a small 700sq feet condo so I did not have the
space to have a big dinner table. So a Moroccan themed table setting was
perfect if you have limited space. I converted left over wood pallets to make a
low sitting table. I did have to prop up the wood pallet with milk crates, but
it turned out great!
Big Save: A trip to Value Village I acquired candles, pillows,
cushions, material and layers of fabric to drape on the floor and table.
Best find: Champagne coloured fabric from Value village to make
matching pillow cases
Biggest Splurge: Table settings for a party of 6 is a challenge. Most
glassware, flatware and plates are sold in sets of fours. The Moroccan bowls
from Winners ($4.99 each); Glasses from Homesense ($2.99 SALE) ; Table cloth
& napkins from Homesense ( $25). Individually they are not too
expensive, but multiply by 6 and it all adds up!
The Menu
Cheese
plate,
Quinoa salad with
arugula, helium tomatoes and feta
Lobster Mac &
Cheese
Champagne & Guava infused vodka ( homemade)
Rich
chocolate cake & Milk
My Fav: The flower center piece ( Biggest splurge
$50 for small bouquet!) & chocolate cake from my favorite cupcake
& cake bakery Crave. The chocolate covered milk glasses was my
DIY quickie ,they were a hit!
Best Moment: Cooking and spending my big day with my
friends
