BEAUTY SCHOOL: How to clean makeup brushes

As if there was not enough household chores to check off your list every week, beauty chores are just as important. At the top of the list is a weekly or bi-weekly makeup brush cleaning routine. When you use your brushes, bits of makeup, oil, dirt, and yes… BACTERIA can get trapped in the bristles.

So while it might seem basic and a hassle, skipping this step can lead to clogged pores and pesky breakouts. Not to mention the fact that quality makeup brushes can be expensive. So learning how to properly clean them is one of the best ways to protect your investment. For daily use, using Sephora Daily Brush Cleanser will suffice, however, deep cleaning your makeup brushes is needed.

You will need:
A shallow bowl with lukewarm water
 A lint free cloth

If you do not have Beauty Blender Solid Cleanser, you can use either baby shampoo or dish detergent. They are inexpensive,  pick up dirt and brake down makeup deposits and naturally clarifies brushes.

I am using the Beauty Blender Solid Cleanser, $20 from Sephora and it is amazing on my beauty blender and I have now started using it on my brushes.

Wet the Beauty Blender Solid Cleanser and gently rub brushes into soap and then use your hands to help work the detergent completely in to it and rinse until the water is clear.

Make sure you rinse makeup brushes thoroughly until you see clean water.
If the water isn’t clear, there is still product on the makeup brushes. You may have to repeat this process a few times to get the makeup brushes are completely clean since they are embedded with a lot of product.

Once clean, squeeze out any excess water and lay flat to dry.
Leave out for a few hours, I recommend applying your makeup first and letting the brushes have all night or day to dry out.
